In this simple guide, I will show you how you can make money online in Uganda as a beginner. In the current situation, you should be able to adapt to online business and this means if you had a business you need to get it online.
If you don’t have one I will show you how to start one that generates for you money in Uganda. The strategies am going to be talking about are strategies you will never learn anywhere from in case you have not found the right information or instructor.
Some of these methods can be done with or without some investments but the tools I will recommend make the process of some of these methods easier… This means I get paid if you buy some of these tools but you don’t have to, I will try to give you as many free options as possible.
With that said let’s get to the business side.
1. Start a Blog.
Blogging is promotable and there is no limit to how much you can earn. You can start a blog and make more than it cost to buy a website. Blogging is just a matter of writing about events, problems, solutions, and interests. With Blogging in Africa starting to pick up it is the perfect time to start your own blog.
You can start a blog and in your first year make your money invested back. It will take up to 6-9 months for your blog to get consistent readers.
After this period everything levels off and you can start to see consistent results or visitors to your website. If you really want to make money blogging here is what you need to know.
- Find a niche. A niche is a topic for your blog. It is what you write about and tells your readers and Google what your website is all about. A niche can be something you have experience in. Your job or even your hobbies.
- Buy a website. This is the only investment you will ever need to make money with a blog. You will need to install WordPress which is what you need to write articles on your website. Most web hosting services offer WordPress install for free.
- Start writing articles. You should be able to write one article each day and publish it. I recommend using Grammarly a free extension on your chrome browser for proper English and grammar. This means by the end of 9 months you should be getting an average of 10,000 visitors each month to your website. This is enough to make you $1000 a month. Which is Ugh. 3,000,000 a month.
- You should write on low competition keywords. You can review new products because they have fewer articles written yet about them or you can write about topics in your country. This can get a huge heap of people reading them which means you are now a journalist and need to keep writing new articles each day which I don’t recommend for a lifetime.
- Target an American audience. This is because these people have money to spend and shop online a lot. So you need to make sure your articles are for an American audience. You can use a VPN or simply head over to google, open an incognito window, search for Google USA, then see what results show up in USA Google.

What if you don’t want to write but you need to make some money selling what you already have then I recommend you sell your own Products.

2. Sell Your own Products.
This is where you create a website and add images of your products. Once someone makes a purchase then you can send them the product. This is complicated and requires a lot to set up. So I just added this in to help you see what is possible.
I won’t explain this in detail because I wouldn’t recommend this for a plain beginner. If you really wanted to sell products online then you can sell t-shirts.
Selling T-shirts.
This is all absolutely free and all you need to do is design the T-shirts and then send buyers to your store to buy them. The company then prints the shirts, handles the refunds, customer care and takes a cut on the money you make.
This is good because all you need to do is design prints using your computer on Teespring, add them to your store then send people to the store. You send buyers to a specific link which you can easily find in your dashboard.
You only make a few dollars each time they purchase because the company handles all the rest for you. So if you can find buyers in the USA, Canada, and those top-tier countries then you can make a lot of money.
This is easy and you can make a lot of sales quicker if you jump on trends and make t-shirts on a trending topic. This is how you can outsmart the competition.
Here is how you can find those buyers.
Instagram. You can create an Instagram account that posts images of your creative designs. Then add hashtags to your posts to get more exposure. Post 2-3 times a day and you should be good to go. As a new account use hashtags with less than 100K posts.

Facebook Marketplace. This is a huge marketplace where people sell and buy Items. You can list your items for people in specific areas. You can also upload images of your created designs to the marketplace and people can buy them off of Facebook to your store.
Pinterest. This is a good platform for e-commerce sites and product creators. You can simply create your pins using Canva which is free then upload them to your Pinterest business account. You can consider advertising on Pinterest as it is cheap.

You need to have a lot of designs created so as to post on these social media platforms. Each design created needs variations o you should be able have what to post on any platform you choose.
Become a Social Media Influencer.
Social media is huge and on average people spend 58 minutes on Facebook and so is Instagram. You can create an Instagram account that posts images or quotes about a specific topic.
This is not hard at all though it takes time to build up. You will spend the most time creating images, reels, IGTV, and videos that don’t have long-term value. Instagram is a fast-paced platform so you need to be active and always in front of your followers.
This is why I recommend scheduling your Instagram posts. I recommend Planoly and I have a complete Planoly tutorial which you can read as well. Instagram is good because you can make a lot of money when you grow a huge following.
This can be from brand deals. You can make money from a brand reaching out to you, being an ambassador, or giving them a shout-out to your audience.
You can also sell your own T-shirts to your followers. This is good if you are a celebrity or a huge social media influencer. I recommend you always build an email list because you may lose your socials and all your work gets wasted.

All you do is create landing page and then add that link to your Bio. You can tell your followers to click the link if they are interested in your T-shirts or whatever deal you have for them.
Start a Youtube Channel.
This is where the money is for all those that love filming. You can use your phone when getting started or purchase a camera and a microphone for better quality visuals and audio. You can head over to Amazon and search up Youtube cameras you should see their prices then purchase a cheaper one.
People can sit and watch a poor quality video than low-quality audio. You can start with a microphone that you can plug on your shirt that costs $20.
If you can’t afford both of these then buy a camera and use your phone for audio. You can download an app called reforge (blue app with a white mic) that really does a similar job as most microphones.
Ensure your settings are on 44KHz- Stereo (Mono X2) , and your source set to the front microphone.
Other settings to use are Enabling the AGC. And conversion to Mp3 after recording. Ensure you have enough space on your phone before recording. That is all you need.
Uploading Your videos to Youtube
The length of your video doesn’t matter but ensure you upload using a computer for faster upload and more features. You will need a google account, enable two-factor verification and confirm your account using your mobile phone number to be able to upload a thumbnail.
A thumbnail impacts your CTR(click-through rate) always have one created for each video. You can use a specific section of your video as an Image. Ensure it captures people’s curiosity You can tell them what to expect if they watch the video.
When making a video has funny parts to keep people watching. This impacts the success of your video on Youtube. You should use teasers of the best part of the video at the start because this hypes people up to keep watching to get to that part of the video.
If you do this I tell you Youtube will become easier for you. With Youtube, you can get a lot of views even as you sleep.
Have a title to your video and a description. If you don’t know what to write in the description then tell people what they will see in the video.
Add tags. These can be about the topic of the video. If your video is a political one then add tags like Politics Uganda. This helps Youtube know where to rank your video and who to show it to. You should always have at least 5 tags, a title, and a keyword-rich description.

Always strive to upload at least 1-2 videos a week. Don’t mind about subscribers and views if you are doing all I explain here they will come naturally and over time.
By the end of a year on Youtube, you should have your first 1000 subscribers and 4000 hours of watch time if you do what I explain here and in the tutorial linked to above.
My personal channel Got over 2k views in just 3 months and 100 subscribers in two weeks using these very tactics. Subscribers may take long but focus on getting those 4000 hours completed first. It is all that matters.
One video can change your life. That is why you should focus on making better videos each time. Posting a video at least a each week without failure.

Offering Freelancing Services.
These are websites that allow you to sign up and offer your services to other people that need them This can be great if you are good at something. You can offer your expertise to people and then get paid.
Here are some to try out.
- Fiverr.
- Freelancer.
- Upwork.
- Star of service (highly recommended)
The competition on these sites is too much so you need to find a service you can offer with less than 500 other people already offering the same job.
This means that you should be fewer than 500 people offering this service. The more competitive it is the less likely you are to be found or even hired. With Fiverr it is even getting harder to offer these huge services like logo design because many people offer that service.
This can be a good way to make money so you should know that It will take time and the sites take a cut of whatever you are paid because they get you, customers, once you are established.
If you offer anew service then you can also stand out from the competition. You can also use trends to see which services you can offer to people during that trend.
Affiliate-marketing In Uganda.
Affiliate marketing in Uganda is not as competitive as it is in the top-tier countries. which means you can stand out from the competition. You can make money by promoting a number of products.
For example
- Betting systems are huge in Uganda (search for them online and look if they have a partner program or affiliates on their website. Usually at the bottom)
- Web hosting services. For example Jubilee web host.
- You can also join these affiliate networks Jvzoo, Digistore24, Warriorplus as they allow people all over the world.

The Best and Most Recommended way to make money in Uganda.
I recommend you start a youtube channel, Sell T-shirts or start a blog. These are the easiest and require less experience. Other methods can be profitable but if you don’t know what you are doing then you are wasting time and money.

By the end of this guide, you should be able to make money online In Uganda. Without any excuses. If you can get access to a stable internet connection then you should make all this work.
You will need a stable wifi connection, not data. You can access Wifi in internet cafes, which I don’t recommend because those are public computers and your passwords are not safe on there. Buy a personal PC and Internet connection from any cheap Internet provider.
